I think we have...everything. Jonathan is on his way to the garage sale at REI right now to get 3 last minute things. Tonight - a going away, New Year's Eve party, followed by one massive day of cleaning, and then we're off!!
First stop is Costa Rica. Jonathan and I have chosen to visit countries that neither of us have ever seen. I've had so many friends go to Costa Rica, and I have never heard of anyone who didn't absolutely love it. We fly into Liberia on the Pacific side, and we'll spend one night there to get our bearings. Then our first stop is Arenal - an active (but safe) volcano, where we can explore and camp for a couple days.
From there we'll head towards the Atlantic side and visit a good friend who lives right on the beach. Then it's Panama, which I am so excited about. I had never thought much about Panama before, but the more I read, the more I can't wait to get there. I've also been reading an excellent book about the history behind the Panama Canal - The Path Between the Seas by David McCullough. So now I'm really excited to see the canal as well.
Things I will miss - my family, my friends, my wonderful horses, my adorable dogs, my students and my work. Things I will not miss - the cold, driving upwards of 100 miles a day, feeling "in a hurry" all the time.
This is a wild & crazy adventure, and I am so ready for it! I'm going to try to get Jonathan to write from time to time, but he is pretty excited to unplug from all technology....so we'll see.
Check back from time to time. I promise lots of pictures and stories!
Love,
J & E

ReplyDeleteSafe travels! We'll be thinking of you as we trudge through wintertime in the mountains. We miss you already, but I can't wait to live vicariously through your retelling of your adventures! Yippee for you!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think I chose "squidy" as a username when I was making a (surprise) argumentative comment on a public blog. Now, I don't know how to change it. Y'all can just remember that "Squidy" is Wendy.
